The Aspen Institute Forum on the Freedom to Communicate, created and convened in association with Grupo Salinas, is an annual forum among leaders of media, government, business, academia and the non-profit sector to address issues surrounding the freedoms of expression and connectivity in the 21st Century. Its aim is to arrive at actionable steps that can enhance the freedoms of communication, particularly in the Western Hemisphere. The inaugural forum of the series was held February 22, 2012 in Mexico City, Mexico. Panelists issues of connectivity, censorship and competition in Mexico, discussing concrete steps that could be taken to protect the free flow of ideas and foster an environment in which freedom, communication and creativity can flourish.
